Dia De Los Muertos Bag - 20-21 October, 2009

This bag was inspired by the variegated yarn called Limbo Mexiko that I bought at The Loft the other day. When crocheted in single crochet, it looks like serape material. I used tapestry crochet to insert my skull pattern into the design, then added crocheted roses under the skull, and a row of turquoise teardrops and two tiny bone skull beads above. The patters is the same on both sides. I had just enough of the variegated yarn left to twist into the cord for the shoulder strap, and I added a scalloped fringe along the bottom of the bag to edge the design.

My BF left for India today to visit family. They are always sending me gifts so I embroidered this picture to send to Babitai ( means older sister). The design came from the design on a box of tea. Special thanks to Celeste for suggesting that I add some metallic thread. The gold worked really well... too bad you can't see it in the photo.

Stitches used; backstitch, stemstitch, lazy daisy, seed stitch, french knots, feather stitch, cross stitch, arrowhead stitch and one stitch I don't know the name for - I did vertical parallel stitches and drew them together with horizontal running stitch of gold metallic thread (in the band next to the feather stitch).
