I confess. I hate finishing. And the only thing I hate worse than finishing knitting is finishing crocheting. All those ends to try to weave in, and they always seem to work their way back out. Any favorite books/sources for crochet finishing?

I generally carry the old thread along with the new one for about 3/4" and then just clip it off. That way, most of your ends are already dealt with, so all you have to do is weave the ones in at the tips.

That works well for some projects, but not things like changing colors in a granny square--there's not place to carry the old color without it showing.

I make a lot of striped things, so I'm always changing colors. When I start & end a color, I usually knot the 2 together with a box knot, with 3" tails, then lay the end down on the previous row, crochet over it.. I carry the old color up by hooking around it on every row , then let it fall back til the next round, til I need it again. If I'm carrying more than one color, it does show a tiny bit on the wrong side, but not if I'm only carrying one color. I've seen people wearing my stuff inside out, and I can tell, but they can't :)
When I get to the end I knot, cut a 3" tail, weave in one direction, then reverse direction of weaving. It seems to make it harder to come loose.
Lion Brand Yarn has a lot of good tutorials on their website. I think you have to register, but it's free. You might also post on the crochet tribe -

Again, that only works if you're doing a solid piece and so can cover the tail with new stitches.
