DUH OH!!! I never thought about using sweaters for the yarn! I complain that yarn is so expensive when I do such elementary projects at this point - I'll know what to look for now when I go clothing recyling shopping now. Thanks for the tip. I'm learning what to do with the loom knitter things and doing plastic canvas stuff now, so I am constantly looking for balls of yarn at my thrift stores - and there are always sweaters available. Thanks for the great ideas.

I use the leather that I get for drum bags , or outfits for fairies..grandbabies,and Ro-Paul my dog, the sweaters become everything from bags, legwarmers, blankets, my favortie is wool then shirk them and make lap bags, pillows or cut them up and redo them into fun coats.......capes, sleeping mats..... hats, then more hats.......

Never at $.99, but leather coats and such are great to recycle too... and I love Value Village mondays - its the same here. I get sweaters to pull apart for the yarn sometimes too - and I got almost all of my crochet hooks at the local one for 99 cents each over several months.

Oh yeah, coats are great too. I haven't done much with sweaters yet, but I did see a cute potholder idea to try out.

Well, that is still a great way to get some fabric. Skirts are my favorite things to get great fabric from - especially the long and flowing ones where you don't have to work with the pleats and there is an abundance of flat fabric (except when there are tiers).

I am the same way. Around here (SE Wisconsin) the thrift stores always have bags of fabric for cheap - like $3. I've gotten bags of fabric that I knew had almost $50 in fabric in them. You can't go wrong with that!
