This is for a Burning Man Mutant Art Project. The theme is "Evolution".
I am converting a Yamaha Riva 180 scooter into a drivable evolving mutating spermatazoa which is leading a "pack" or "school" of normal sperm. =)
Obviously the scooter/sperm-mobile will be approximately 6-7' long and 4' tall. What I need to figure out is how to build and attach the rest of the school of sperm. I envision the school fo sperm to be much smaller and of varying sizes in tight formation around and behind the largest mutant sperm/vehicle.
The school of sperm might be constructed similarly to windsocks and even replicate the swimming action as seen with these windsocks.

Perhaps able to follow the direction of the wind no matter what direction the wind comes from.
Either mounted on a swivel from below or hanging from above.
Body construction and getting the little swimmers tails to swim are my big challenges.
Body sizes to be between 6" and 2'. Tails to be proportionate.
Sketch here...

Crafty Vixens, creative types, engineers, kite flyers, yard art fanatics, or anyone else, please chime in. I'm open to all ideas.
Much thanks,
Cook

Re: What better group to ask. I'm building a swimming school of spermatazoa (SPERM!!!) ;-)
Wed, July 1, 2009 - 1:41 AMI posted this in burning man too but since you have posted here.. this is the place to brainstorm it..
inside
pin wheel in line with opening on front with room to spin..
on the back side of the pinwheel place a hot glued stick or stick pin
on the end of the semi stiffened tail make it with the same cloth just stiffen it with starch spray on...
inside close enough for the stickpin through the pinwheel to hit it have a T bar so every time the pinwheel Stickpin hits it it wobbles the faster you go the faster the wobble.. -

Thu, July 2, 2009 - 11:45 AMi'm not getting the T bar and how it makes a wobble. please forgive me.
but i love pinwheels.... LOL -

Re: What better group to ask. I'm building a swimming school of spermatazoa (SPERM!!!) ;-)
Fri, July 3, 2009 - 1:12 AMeach time the pin wheel turned the stick pin or stick... would hit the T once on the up swing and once on the down swing of the fan..
If you put two on it would make the T move faster.
the pinwheel is facing the mouth of the sperm? lol where the air would come in.. and the stick on the back and the T on the tail -

Fri, July 3, 2009 - 10:00 AMis it going to have a tail? I'd take a look at how they make those wooden snakes.... you hold 'em by the tail and they wiggle like a real snake! -

Re: What better group to ask. I'm building a swimming school of spermatazoa (SPERM!!!) ;-)
Fri, July 3, 2009 - 1:00 PMHiya Cooks! : )
I'd suggest using balls, like tennis balls or others, mounted with wire through them either standing or hanging from an umbrella type framework. Cover the balls with silk of the spermy type shape. add wind
well priced silk can be found at Dharma trading Co.

Re: What better group to ask. I'm building a swimming school of spermatazoa (SPERM!!!) ;-)
Thu, July 9, 2009 - 2:22 AMHey thanks Plok, I'm there.
Also, I took a cruise down to my local fabric store this afternoon. I love going there as I'm usually the only man there. LOL ;-)
Found a couple of different material fabrics I will experiment with to see which simulates the effect of a sperms tails the best. Silky, sheer, and a very light muslin.
I love creating something from whence there was none. -

Re: What better group to ask. I'm building a swimming school of spermatazoa (SPERM!!!) ;-)
Mon, July 13, 2009 - 12:11 PM=-)))) Absolutely I will get pics.
and if anyone wants to trade a pink womens wetsuit size 12-13 i think) for anything on this list of similar value
Parts list:
EL wire and power packs.
Anything SPERM related (no, not used condoms..) like funny shirts, hats, ...
I need several square yards of gauze or very light weight cloth for the construction of the spermmatazoas bodies.
Lots of unopened massage/sex lube, non-expired condoms ("Magnum" preferred) ;-)
1 - 12V DC 6" to 12" actuator. Hell I'll take any length, I'm not picky.
10 - 12V DC little electric motors
Laser lights/pointers/etc...
I have two disco balls and they need those very slow moving motors to spin them. AC or DC powered is OK.
Polyester resin / catalyst.
