I took apart the lower thread bobbin to clean it and now every time I try to sew something new the thread is bunching up. I have no idea what is wrong. This is a new (cheap) machine for me and it's the first time I've cleaned it since I got it. I've never had this problem before.

  • Do you have your owner's manual? Take the bobbin apart again and put it back together again using the book as a guide. Some machines have little quirks of their own. Then unthread the top and rethread it.
    • Yep... tried that several times :(
      • Did you "take the bobbin case apart" or did you "take out the bobbin case and also the looping mechanism"?

If you took the case that you put the bobbin spool into apart ***IE you undid the little screw*** then go buy a new bobbin case from the manufacturer because you'll never get the tension just right again. (That's what the little screw adjusts.)

If you took the case out and then took out the crescent shaped thing that pulls the top thread around to pick up the bobbin then take it out again and oil it... just one drop at the bottom of it's housing and one drop spread along the outside edge where it will be meeting the housing.

If all seems to have failed, then take it to the sewing / repair shop and ask them to show you how to properly clean it.

        Good luck

  • When that happened to my machine, my friend re-threaded the top for me. It had come out of the... not sure what it's called... the part inside the machine that grabs the thread before it gets to the needle... it goes up and down like an oil pump? Anyway, mine had slipped out of there, and was affecting my tension and causing the bottom thread to bunch.
Best of luck! I know how maddening it can be!
