My mom used to sculpt with honey-locus thorns (pointy, nasty, mean twigs with lots of branches), and she used fishing line and hot glue to hold everything together. I remember her taking lots of wraps with the fishing line, sort of weaving it through the thorns. to make flat forms with the main axes. Think of a raft made of logs. Twigs should be easier.
