...and not the kind that say "moooo".....
So I have the fortunate problem of having great and powerful calf muscles, the unfortunate part is that most - ok, ALL but stretch - boots do not fit. Nope, can't zip'em up. So, I found these awesome boots for burning man this year that I looooove, but of course, they did not zip.
I thought and thought and then BLAM!
So, I carefully split the boots up the back slightly below the place that they zipped up to.
Using an awl, carefully put sets of holes up the back, like for shoe laces, and placed a grommet into them. It took 4 set of holes.
Then laced them up with attractive and colorful laces. Voila! Looked great and functioned very well.
Of course, this was for burning man, but I am thinking I may be on to something here...

Sun, September 21, 2008 - 11:01 PMWhat an awesome idea - I wish I could have thought of that for Halloween last year when I "wasted" my money on a cool pair of boots off of Ebay! Hmm...I wonder if I still have them around. I'll have to try that out (especially if I still have those ones around) as I have the same problem with boots. -

Re: boot alterations for fitting large calves
Fri, October 3, 2008 - 1:11 PMThe lacing ide is good . . . it really depends on how much more room you need . . . I often have to alter thick leather riding boots for actors with big calves . . . I place a 3-5 inch slit in the back or inseam side, stitch in a thick piece of 3" wide elastic making a slight gusset that will stretch further . . . -
