    <summary type="html">The lacing ide is good . . . it really depends on how much more room you need . . . I often have to alter thick leather riding boots for actors with big calves . . . I place a 3-5 inch slit in the back or inseam side, stitch in a thick piece of 3" wide elastic making a slight gusset that will stretch further . . .</summary>

    <summary type="html">I had the same problem with a pair of boots, split them up the back of the calf, and used big silver grommets.  It worked great!</summary>

Hmm...I wonder if I still have them around.  I'll have to try that out (especially if I still have those ones around) as I have the same problem with boots.</summary>

So I have the fortunate problem of having great and powerful calf muscles, the unfortunate part is that most - ok, ALL but stretch - boots do not fit.  Nope, can't zip'em up.  So, I found these awesome boots for burning man this year that I looooove, but of course, they did not zip. &#xD;
I thought and thought and then BLAM!   &#xD;
So, I carefully split the boots up the back slightly below the place that they zipped up to.&#xD;
Using an awl, carefully put sets of holes up the back, like for shoe laces, and placed a grommet into them.  It took 4 set of holes.&#xD;
Then laced them up with attractive and colorful laces.  Voila!  Looked great and functioned very well.  &#xD;
Of course, this was for burning man, but I am thinking I may be on to something here...</summary>
