I was told I should "slack"? my art projects for long lasting protection and shine - finishing touch. Can someone reccommend a top finishing coat for paper projects?

Sun, March 8, 2009 - 4:12 PMA top coat of a matte or high gloss clear spray paint works really well. Krylon makes several kinds, is inexpensive and works well on most mediums. -

Tue, March 10, 2009 - 8:44 AMSome folks use hairspray (it used to be made of laquer, not sure anymore though) but I never have any around.
I just use clear spray like Stephanie said. Buy the cheap stuff. And do 2 or 3 thin coats instead of one heavy coat. My can says non-yellowing fast-drying finish.

Tue, April 7, 2009 - 7:07 PMI'm a classically trained fine artist, and it depends what the medium is... pencil? you want a light fixative. pastel? watercolor? collage??
It totally depends. I think high gloss or shine can make it look junky personally. whats the medium?

Depending on the piece and how long you want it to last etc. there are quite a few products to use, everything from polyurethane (love it) to modge podge. For a good basic paper piece (collage) I generally use my collage glue. If its something I want to have forever, several coats of spray fixative (acid free) and framing/covering with glass or something is the way to go.
