I bought some clear glass christmas ornaments in boxes of 6 @ the $ store I primed them dull gray w/ spray primer. Then I sprayed then w/white stone finish spray paint,( the gray shows thru a little). Whe really dry I hand painted with blu so they look like salt glazed pottery. Now I just have to seal then w /some kind of sealer. If you didn't want to hand paint you could always stencil. Now I'd like to try some cutouts like this. Anyone remember a recipe for something called (I think ) SALT DOUGH ? I think you bake it low for awhile and it lasts forever. Any ideAs??

Sat, November 22, 2008 - 10:24 AMhere's a basic recipe for Salt Dough (which i absolutely love doing! i think i might have to make a batch now for my kids to do ornaments!)

kids.creativity-portal.com/d/re...shtml
The last time i did salt dough I added a little bit of dry tempera paint to the dough to color it. Or you could just paint it afterwards.
One year I used glass etch on the glass ornaments and gave them to people. I love arts and crafts! -

Sat, November 22, 2008 - 3:52 PMThat was soo helpfull. I can't believe how busy I am already. Probably because I HAVE to make everything this year. I got another I dea, Make a clock out of a book. have the book slightly open (hard cover) standing uo. drill a hole in the cover for the battery clockworks to poke thru. Hollow out enough pages to insert the clock works and glue in place. Be creative with hands and numerals or buy store bought. What do you think? Lets hear more ideas!!!!!!

Mon, December 8, 2008 - 6:34 PMWiltons cake decorator colors work better.. but always darken 2 shades or more. So under dose it wait and then add a touch more.. the food coloring that you use for cookies etc. washes out more than the cake decorator colors.

Re: New Christmas craft ( new to me) I'll put up a pic
Sat, November 22, 2008 - 10:06 PMvery cool. I usually don't get so excited so early but this tribe is inspiring. I have a couple of friends and we usually settle on a Christmas craft. last year we made gift sets of soaps and lotions and perfume oils.3 of us each put in $30.00. We we each able to make 6 sets each and we have enough spa quality lotion to last us forever . We spent the day together. We had a special lunch and played Christmas music, ( my favorite Charlie Brown Ch). It was really fun and we got alot done. I ike having lots of little Christmas experiences it makes the the Holidays last forever. HO HO HOMEMADE!!!!

Mon, November 24, 2008 - 6:17 AMI've gotten and made edible potpouri. It's neat and easy to make. You can usually buy kits and it makes a lot. The stuff I got and then made was a peppermint, chocolate, and almond mix for the flavors and used red, white and green candy chips. It was really good, though some didn't want to try it as it turns out looking and smelling a lot like potpouri. The batch I made filled a paper grocery bag about 2/3 full. -

Re: New Christmas craft ( new to me) I'll put up a pic
Mon, November 24, 2008 - 10:05 AMLast year my niece sent me Xmas ornaments.... clear glass balls that she (girl scouts) poured paint inside and swirled about.
I've also seen them with little "scenes" or themes inside.
I've been appliqueing and embroidering bed sheet sets & pillow cases as gifts. I open up the hem on the top of the top sheet, do the needlework then sew the hem closed so that knots and stitches are hidden. -
