Re: Messenger bag?
Wed, February 1, 2006 - 10:37 PMI would also love to see a pattern...
One tip- from bags that I've seen - if you use large tire inner tube for the flap, then it will keep the rain out really well forever, rather than waterproof canvas which degrades over time.

Re: Messenger bag?
Thu, February 2, 2006 - 6:45 AMI've just designed my own. There are some basic ones that you could work from. What is it that you're looking for in a messenger bag? If you could supply some drawings, I'd be happy to design a pattern for you!

Re: Messenger bag?
Sun, March 29, 2009 - 8:48 AMHey Alex,
If I send you some sketches you would be able to help a sitcher out? I'm heading to the UK for school and I want a messenger bag that I made myself. One question...how do I send pictures on here and two...how much detail do you need?
Thanks a bunch,
Brittany

Re: Messenger bag?
Thu, February 2, 2006 - 7:59 AMagreed--make your own pattern. a messenger bag is basically a box + flap + strap. you can customize or add any special embellishments, such as curved corners, bias tape edging, lining, sections, and sized to large, medium, tall, thin, wide, short, flat, fat... and the pockets can be zip closed, flap closed, patch pockets, or any combination on top of each other, side by side, all over, upside down, sideways. ... and the strap can be thick, thin, adjustable, padded, weighted, buckled, clipped, etc.

Thu, February 2, 2006 - 8:53 AMHere are some that I came up with:
www.smartcart.com/1sew/cgi/display.cgi
www.smartcart.com/1sew/cgi/display.cgi
www.smartcart.com/1sew/cgi/display.cgi
www.smartcart.com/1sew/cgi/display.cgi
(this one's actually a diaper bag, but, it would work great anyway!)
www.smartcart.com/1sew/cgi/display.cgi
(this one's a "kwik sew" super-basic, great starting-off point pattern!)

Those were all the ones I found. Hope they help!

Re: Messenger bag?
Thu, February 2, 2006 - 9:18 AMOh, it's Sewing Patterns.com ( www.sewingpatterns.com/ )
It's the first (and, sometimes, only) place I go when I'm looking for a pattern!
namaste,
alex
P.S. Regarding pattern prices, if you shop at Hancock's or JoAnn's, sign up for their circular, and you'll always know when they're having great sales on patterns! I only get my Vogue patterns when they're on sale -- usually 75% off or all one price (like, $4 or $5).

Re: Messenger bag?
Thu, February 2, 2006 - 11:15 AMAnd, I know you're wanting to make your own, but, in looking for patterns, I ran across this on this Army/Navy Surplus site:
www.armysurplusworld.com/product.asp
I figure, at $16, I almost couldn't make one! I'm wanting to get one and put some bright floral daisies on it, and maybe some really girly trim around the edges.
