Hey crafters!
I am making 3 baskets this year for my mom and sisters for christmas. I wanted to give them fun, girly bath/beauty items. I made soaps for the first time and am trying to think of other low-budget things I can make/add. At the moment I have soaps, exfoliating gloves and a few candles for each basket. Money is tight for me this year, so I didnt want to spend much more but wanted to add some other things. I am considering some salt/sugar scrubs, but I know at least one of my siblings really doesn't like to use them.
So - Any other ideas? Things you have made or seen that you liked? I need some creative boosting...

Re: ideas for bath basket gifts?
Tue, December 2, 2008 - 2:36 PMBath bombs are fun. They are made from baking soda and citric acid, neither of which is expensive, plus oil and scents of your choice. You can also put in glitter or flower petals to make them extra girly.

Tue, December 2, 2008 - 4:43 PMgOOd ole Milk Bath. You can get a big can of powdered milk for a few bucks (i get Nestle from my local ethnic store) and it goes a LONG way. Theres also powdered Goats Milk which is supposed to be really good for skin. I throw in a handful of dried flowers, like chamomile and put it in a pretty jar (alot of times you can find miniature looking "Milk" bottle jars; i've gotten three bottles for a couple of dollars from wally world), and i add one or two muslin tea/bags to put the powder in, if they don't like the herbs/flowers floating around.
Some variations/additions:
Epsom salt - helps ease aches and pains
Few drops of oil for scent
Powdered Cocoa for a "chocolate" bath
or:
Buy some facial clay, ex: french green clay (which is fairly inexpensive) and some witchhazel, put in pretty jars and bottles for a facial pack.
have fun! -

Wed, December 3, 2008 - 12:04 AMYOU CAN MAKE OAT AND MILK BATH BAGS TOO(used like tea bags!) I made some oat and lavender oil bags, with the milk powder(value brand! ) they work out inexpensively especially if you use scraps of material, and tie wth string........
I have split chamomile tea bags to make the bath milk ones in the past, as tea bags cheaper than the flowers!

Tue, December 2, 2008 - 6:38 PMwww.saveonscents.com This is a good source for all kinds of essential oils and basic lotions in small quantities if you like . you will be amazed the nuber of scents that they offer. also jars and packaging. Last year 3 of us got together and made a day of making gift baskets w/ soaps , lotions perfume oils, scrubers and do dads. We also collected pine cones and rose hips and dryed pods and made popoirie <sp?> by using the cinnamon oil or pine on them. -

do they have long hair - maybe some cute items to pin it up while they are in the tub. Bath confetti is fun too.

Re: ideas for bath basket gifts?
Tue, December 2, 2008 - 8:20 PMHow about making some music cd's with some relaxing music to go along with the candles? I loved taking baths with candles and music playing (I can't now because I can't get into and out of the tub by myself since I can't walk/stand anymore). Maybe get inflatable pillows from your local dollar store for comfortable soaking. You can probably get the epsom salt there too for making bath salts - just make sure that no one has diabetes if you make the bath salts. I'm not sure what it is exactly that is the problem, but I know my aunt (who has it) says that you can't use epsom salts if you have it.
I had a friend who would add scented oils (made for cosmetic uses) to unscented lotions that she would often get for cheap and put into bottles and jars that she put personal labels onto. She would just empty the lotion into a bowl and add the oils drop by drop, mixing it until she got the strength of scent she wanted.
There are tons of recipes for bath stuff on the web, Google whatever you want and you'll find them. There are even perfumes and body spray recipes.

Is there a natural baby shampoo anyone recommends? That's a whole new territory for me. -

Wed, December 3, 2008 - 1:53 PMwww.GreenPeople.co.uk/BabyShampoo ?' or eco baby @ although I think the idea was more general, in that the asumption was that any baby shampoo would be gentle as it would be fragrance free and more kind to the skin. -
