Hello there!
I was lucky enough to find a (mostly) functional serger at a fleamarket for rather cheap. The only problem is it has no cutter! Has anyone here had to replace a cutter? If so, how much was it? My local shop won't give me an estimate unless I take it in to get serviced, and I don't want to service a machine I won't be able to use. I was told later that it isn't worthwhile to replace, so I'd love to hear another opinion before I try to take it back.
I would also appreciate pictures of the cutter area if anyone has a similar model.
Thanks!

Re: Serger Question- Juki Cutter
Mon, August 24, 2009 - 9:18 AMIf you mean the blade, you should be able to find that. There's a bottom & a top blade on mine, an old singer that I find parts for downtown LA. If you mean the metal part that holds the blade, they may be right? Look up your machine online & you should be able to find pics so you can see how to align the blades & part #s. Check in industrial repair shops that also service home machines. Also, you don't have to have a cutter to serge necessarily. For awhile I couldn't find the bottom blade for mine, so I just cut by hand. A Juki is a good machine, so it seems like it would be worthwhile to repair. -

Re: Serger Question- Juki Cutter
Mon, August 24, 2009 - 9:33 PMThanks gail!
I've tried looking online and I'm having trouble finding a good picture of what exactly is missing. It's been awhile since I've serged something, so I can't remember exactly what should be there. I was told that serging without a cutter can result in throwing off the timing, so I'd like to figure this out.

Re: Serger Question- Juki Cutter
Wed, August 26, 2009 - 1:25 AMHmm, well try this place: sewing-machine-parts-store.com/list.asp
It shows pics & lists upper & lower knives & shafts, plus all the other parts around the knives. You just have to know your model #. This is the page for Juki household machines - if yours is an industrial, they have that also. I've never ordered from this place, so no recommendation, but at least you can see the various parts. I would try to find another repair place that you can carry the machine into & ask what's missing. -
