Hi Crafters!
I was going to purchase a plain corset from ebay and add black ribbon to it...I have no sewing experiance...Would you recommend i use fabric glue or sew the ribbon on? I dont like the lace on the original design (looks a bit tacky) so Im hoping to find nicer lace/ribbon. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much if you have any suggestions,
Petra

Re: Embellishing a corset
Sun, March 29, 2009 - 11:16 PMThis black laced lace is called Beading Lace (like this www.cheeptrims.com/store/item.asp )
I recommend hand stitching it on.

You can do a simple running stitch- www.embroiderersguild.org.uk/sti...html -in a similar colored thread to hold it all together. I like to buy lace in locally-owned fabric stores so I can see and feel it, or take trims off of thrift store clothes. If you're planning on taking OFF lace that was sewn on by the corset makers, please make sure that you're only snipping seams that are non-structural! As in, remove the lace, not the seams. There's a nifty little tool called a "seam ripper" that makes removing lines of stitches super easy.
I just looked at the picture- it will be difficult to add ribbon to lace that wasn't meant to have it there, unless you want it to sit on top. To have it weave in and out, you should probably buy that type of lace, and then sew it on. Keep in mind that most lace and ribbons don't hold dye evenly, so you'll have to find exactly what colors you want.
good luck!
