Your Etsy Experience

Yesterday I made myself an Etsy store (haven't put anything in it yet though).

I'm curious to your experiences as both buyers and sellers on Etsy.

Besides your overall impressions,
What's the most expensive thing you've ever sold there?
Do you have any horror stories?

I sell my fluffie rufflie pants on etsy. They go pretty fast when I list them.
Ive sold a few things other than my pants and I have things listed that attract attention, but have not moved yet.
For what it is, I think its a great way to sell and promote if you can generate buyers your way.
it takes work and I have not had as much time as I like to invest in promotion.
But I intend to do all my christmas and birthday shopping on it!
There are so many amaziing craftspeople on etsy. Many grossly undercharge themselves, but I try not to do that.
Couture is being offered more and more, but not sure how well it moves.
I think that it is mainly knowing your audience and aiming your shop towards it.
    Hope that helped!

I have an etsy store. I've sold a few things, but like others mentioned, I haven't had the time to invest in promotion. I plan on doing that, soon. The people that I know that are highly successful at etsy spend quite a bit of time promoting in different ways. If you look at my tribe.net blog, I have pictures of several of my etsy items on there, with links to my etsy shop, if anyone is interested. For what it's worth, I think that Etsy is a much better venue than ebay for the crafter/artisan. It's also more personable, and FUN. There's a whole, fun, etsy community, lol. The etsy community is also a great way to promote, I've heard...posting in the forums gets people to look at your stuff.

I have a shop there. But given that my early attempts got me zero sales, I decided I'd rather sell direct from my own web page. If I'm going to have to pitch a shop, I'd rather pitch my own. I know it's great for some people, but it's not for me.

Hasn't been working out too well for me. I need to do more to encourage traffic there I guess. *shrugs*

you do have to keep at it and I just have not had a lot of time for it. It does seem that cheap is what people want and it boggles my mind how some of these handmade things are priced so low. I dont know if it is ignorance of how to price things, or if it is simply a matter of logistics. My prices have to be so much higher than many because it costs 5 X more to live in this part of the world than say, the mid west. And this is actually what I do for a living. And I think Im worth that much. But its an experiment for me and when I need a break, I go look at all the pretty things! Its fun! I have had people inquire about other things to have made, so it is a handy calling card and advertisement, if nothing else.

I think the best sales seem to be on the sites that look the trendiest and the freshest. Something Im working on when I have a spare moment. Haha.
