that's the link to the picture i posted. i found this green headband in some junk in my parents basement. i don't know where i got it or when, but i'd LOVE to get some of this metal chain material.
i'll trty to describe it. it's a bunch of reflective flat discs from the front, have you ever seen rhinestone chain? they're connected kind of like that but on all four sides. i want to call it chain mail, but i know it's not proper chain mail. this is a thin strip on this headband, but i swear i've seen this stuff before, i think as a drapey reflective shirt. i just have no idea what it might be called, so i can see if ican buy it somewhere...
i tried googling all sort of metal fabric things i made up to no avail. can anyone help me??
thanks!

Its hard to tell from the photos, but I think I've seen that kind of mesh on vintage purses.
Like this:

Unsu...
Yeah, I think thats it. I have seen this on my grandmas purses too. It kind of looks like sequins so it might be a great way of making something for the playa without MOOP issues.
Still not sure about this fabric. I still cant find it online. Its more of a cloth mesh but it can have some shine as well.

Yeah, I tried looking for the mesh fabric you posted about and all I found was that poly tricot that you see in basketball jerseys or fishnet stocking type stuff. But these are close:

Unsu...
Yeah. I think for my fabric, the closest I found was this:

This might be it too but the picture is a bit too small to make it out:

I wish I could find some without having ot order in bulk or ordering from China. Either way, this fabric...I wonder if it could take the weight of things being tied on it without ripping. It sure *looks* durable.

its called metal mesh. It was used alot on handbags in the 40's and 50's.
Whiting and davis used it a lot on their handbags.
As far as finding it.....I think buying vintage handbags from goodwill etc might your best bet. Ive been working in the fabric industry for 12 years now and havent seen it around. But then again I work on the apparel side.
Metal mesh has several different meanings, best to describe it when looking for it.

You can also search for 'disco mesh'. I was looking for it in bulk a while back and had no success (sad face).

check out some the links that sandi posted. aparrently you can order it in bulk from china. which is pricey enough to think about how much just the minimum yardage would cost, let alone the cost of shipping that much metal from china!
i figure *eventually* id like to make that big china purchase, i'll hold onto a bunch, but i think i'll be able to sell the rest considering how difficult it is to obtain.
in the meantime tho, i'll hit up thrift shops and keep my eyes open for some old purses!

I hope they sell retail. I get a wholesale feel about the site, but I haven't read the details on how much you have to buy. There's got to be a fabric store that sells it. I noticed that some photos were of curtains made out of it. You might look around upscale curtain/interior design shops too.
Good luck!
